Wow…

Can it be I haven’t posted anything since July? I guess so. I have been busy training. My gym moved closer to my work – now I have no excuse at all. :-)   The gym is so close now I can leave during my lunch – change clothes — workout for 30 minutes – cleanup / change clothes again and be back to work in one hour! My goal is to hit the gym before work and go back again at lunch  at least 4 times a week. Weekends are difficult for me to get more than a run on Saturdays.  I really need to get my canine partner involved again. She is gaining weight and she really enjoys running with me. With the gradual change in sunrise times if  I am going to run in the morning it will be dark for most of the run. I have a good headlamp and I also have a blinkie I can attached to the dog’s collar.  Somehow I need to get up a little earlier so we can have a 30 minutes run in the mornings. Will be good for both of us — her four legs move faster than my two, so it pushes me a little harder.  Too easy for me to ease up when I run alone.

My Favorite jersey

This is my favorite jersey that i own… so much fun!
I think it is important to have fun on my bike — not just be commuting to and fro OR training for a race. The sheer joy of riding cannot be overlooked. When I saw curious george jersey I couldn’t pass it up. Livestrong!

Against the wind…

Makes for a difficult ride to work this morning. I did not realize how much wind was blowing this morning until a mile or so into my ride. At this point I realized I was working very hard and not much speed was happening. The trip into town took 10 minutes longer than normal and I felt every minute! This string of thunderstorms every day is creating havoc on my commute. When I arrived to work I went online & discovered the winds were 10-12mph WSW — a headwind the whole way — hopefully, this translates to a tailwind going home. We can hope :-)
I do not mind riding in the rain, thunderstorms are a different matter. We shall see how the afternoon falls, I just might get lucky and enjoy a repreive from the weather on the journey home.

Livestrong.

Easy run this morning…

Finally pushing myself back into excercise groove. Getting tired of seeing the roll above my waistband. I am still signed up for Sundancer Adventure Race October 4th so it’s now or never if I plan to be in shape for this race. Actually, this morning was pretty nice although a warm 80 at 5:30am! I wore a regular t-shirt and sweated something fierce. The “keep dry” shirts work so much better I will try to remember in the morning. (Tomorrow is bike day) I will start the dog running with me again soon but I need to get my ‘legs’ back a little before I take on the long legs of a labrador. :-) Hopefully in couple weeks I will be ready for my canine running partner again. Yes, it is June already…

The training has taken a back seat too often the past six months. I have a race in 4 months and I want to do well. There is still time for me to get in shape but no time left to waste. The weather has been very iffy in the mornings (thunderstorms) so any day could change from outside to indoors at moment’s notice.  I need to switch btwn running and cycling every day with one day a week off from both.  On my running days I need to add in strength training after work. LOTS OF WATER, stay hydrated… high temps are averaging low 90s most days.  Livestrong another day.

Wheels just keep on turning…

A beautiful day this morning. The temp was nearly perfect @ 55°F with just a slight breeze (<5 mph). Fantastic start to the day. So energetic and alive when I arrived at work. I have new handlebar end lights that are terrific. My commuter has the mountain bike style straight handlebar and the bar end lights are designed to be seen from behind… I am getting more visible with each new gadget. I now have 3 blinkies and the 2 new lights shining red – quite the sight from behind. My headlight works fairly well but I think I need to improve it some — there are a couple sections of road where it is realllly dark in the mornings and my visibility is not quite as good as I would prefer… online shopping here I come!

The end is near…not really :-)

the year of 2007 has almost finished its cycle.  Again I find myself seeking the motivation and determination to get fit (sticking with it is my nemesis it seems) – lately, I am also looking deeper into the spiritual side of life. There is a connection with the earth I have found and now is a good time to continue exploring this.

Thanksgiving notes

Thanksgiving… a holiday of thanks but it’s really all about the food. I fed 10 people, no one left hungry and I have leftovers. Good job {pat on the back} and I didn’t stress out, either. I planned the menu well, and the cooking went without a hitch.  Only challenge was so many people meant lots of conversations everywhere. I missed out on lots but that happens with crowds.

Thankful I am, lots of love in my world… family and friends. Life is good — even if I have spent most of the week suffering with a head cold — all in all my life rocks!

Peace.

Now for something completely different…

Very cool day today, temps and events both. I attended a workshop today entitled “writing for the web” sponsored by PLAN. I thought it would be more technical in nature but actually it was closer to being creative than techie. I had fun and found there is a writer lurking within… oooh scary :-) The speaker was Karen Schneider aka FreeRangeLibrarian – I have actually read a number of her online musings so it was cool to meet her in person and learn something about myself.  I am looking at my blog efforts in a new light now.  I do think I will start following my inner muse by applying some of the tips & tricks I learned today.  Stay tuned for the next adventure of the librarian on a bike!

Training continues…

The running with dog works pretty well so far, Last week we went out Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Yesterday we were joined by T & her daughter, Chyenne was very well-behaved. Good thing as T. doesn’t ‘care for dogs’ but worked out fine. Today I was back on 2 wheels! I am hoping the combination of running and riding will help me to get on track — stronger and faster with both.  I am looking at finding (or creating) a training program to follow and see if that will help me with building my base both as a runner and as a cyclist. (only leave swimming :-) to be a triathlete)  Livestrong!
