Can it be I haven’t posted anything since July? I guess so. I have been busy training. My gym moved closer to my work – now I have no excuse at all.
The gym is so close now I can leave during my lunch – change clothes — workout for 30 minutes – cleanup / change clothes again and be back to work in one hour! My goal is to hit the gym before work and go back again at lunch at least 4 times a week. Weekends are difficult for me to get more than a run on Saturdays. I really need to get my canine partner involved again. She is gaining weight and she really enjoys running with me. With the gradual change in sunrise times if I am going to run in the morning it will be dark for most of the run. I have a good headlamp and I also have a blinkie I can attached to the dog’s collar. Somehow I need to get up a little earlier so we can have a 30 minutes run in the mornings. Will be good for both of us — her four legs move faster than my two, so it pushes me a little harder. Too easy for me to ease up when I run alone.

the year of 2007 has almost finished its cycle. Again I find myself seeking the motivation and determination to get fit (sticking with it is my nemesis it seems) – lately, I am also looking deeper into the spiritual side of life. There is a connection with the earth I have found and now is a good time to continue exploring this.

The running with dog works pretty well so far, Last week we went out Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Yesterday we were joined by T & her daughter, Chyenne was very well-behaved. Good thing as T. doesn’t ‘care for dogs’ but worked out fine. Today I was back on 2 wheels! I am hoping the combination of running and riding will help me to get on track — stronger and faster with both. I am looking at finding (or creating) a training program to follow and see if that will help me with building my base both as a runner and as a cyclist. (only leave swimming
to be a triathlete) Livestrong!

Another runing day today… again with my canine training partner. Went pretty well, it was cooler this morning and I started with a light jacket. About 15 minutes into it, I tied the jacket around my waist. There is one issue I need to figure out, lighting is a problem – in my neighborhood less than half of the streets have streetlights so I have to bring some sort of lighting with us. I have a headlamp but it gets uncomfortable after awhile I guess I need to wear a headband or something for the lamp strap to go over. Also, I need to get a blinkie to attach to the dog’s collar. I am enjoying her company and I know she enjoys getting out and having fun with me. Definitely a win-win situation!

T was not available this morning so instead I ran with Sam’s dog Chyenne. Actually worked out pretty well. Cheyenne is a 90 pound labrador that could use some exercise. She is not your typical pet-me pet-me Lab — she is more guard dog than you would expect with her breed. I felt pretty secure even though it was 5 am and very dark outside. We need to work with each other to build up a rhythm that works for us… she has a tendency to ‘heel’ a bit too close to my leg for my ‘running’ stride. I am not fast — and Cheyenne basically held a fast walk the whole time. She was plenty tired when we returned after only 30 minutes… That was enough for our first effort. I hope to keep working with her 2-3x a week. Hopefully, T won’t mind Chyenne’s presence next Monday. This could be really good for Chyenne and I both — I would feel safer in the dark and eventually have to run faster — Chyenne could trim down some of those extra pounds she’s carrying on her big self.

Well, I finally have a running partner… T & I used to do fast walks 2x week until our schedules quit meshing. We are going to try Monday mornings and see how it goes. Since T is getting married in January I expect our running together will be short lived — that’s ok, hopefully after Jan 1st I will have more confidence to try catching up with local running club.

Well, looks like I am going to try another 5k in November — on the 17th is the Draggin’ Tail in Sunny Hills — Supposed to be pretty challenging. Actually, the main race is 18 miles — I am nowhere near ready for that many miles — I still find 5k tough enough. The weather in November can be pretty decent for running so I guess I will give it a shot.
Last night I had dinner with friends @ Beef O’Brady’s (wow, what a loud place during Monday night football!) One of the group is a runner — she & I could talk about it, but the others found it boring — oh well. Running is hard work and I like being able to share that with someone. I really need a running partner.

Survived the 5k Run for the Cure held at PC marina today. Actually placed third in my age group. I learned a couple very important lessons today. One, after a race go for the gatorade and refuel. Two, listen to my body — I ended up with some terrible stomach cramps for the second half of the route. My time was pretty good first half, but second half sucked… my final time was 46:05 ! Third, tylenol after the race is important. I have decided to work harder and try couple more 5k races and next year do run for the cure 10k! I have definitely been bitten by the bug… I will take a couple days off before my next run. My training needs to kick it up and get it together. Happy birthday to me.

Due to Tropical (or subtropical) Depression #10 the Sundancer Adventure race has been postponed to October 6th — I am booked to run 5k Race for the Cure — A Breast Cancer Charity race I have participate in the last 2 years, this year is my 3rd effort and I hope to run most of the way. The people of Sundancer moved my registration to next year. Wow, already booked a race for 2008! I will now focus primarily on my running for the race in 2 weeks and after that I plan to work in some cycling miles for the ‘tour de ranch’ in March — a metric century — my first!

Until the sundancer adventure race. I am already nervous… I have got to get it together. I am excited too. I know I can do this. The race meeting is the night before, we pick up our race packets and listen to the rules, etc. during the short meeting (< one hour)
