Go Dog Go! (or runs with dog)

Another runing day today… again with my canine training partner. Went pretty well, it was cooler this morning and I started with a light jacket. About 15 minutes into it, I tied the jacket around my waist. There is one issue I need to figure out, lighting is a problem – in my neighborhood less than half of the streets have streetlights so I have to bring some sort of lighting with us. I have a headlamp but it gets uncomfortable after awhile I guess I need to wear a headband or something for the lamp strap to go over. Also, I need to get a blinkie to attach to the dog’s collar. I am enjoying her company and I know she enjoys getting out and having fun with me. Definitely a win-win situation!

different training partner today

T was not available this morning so instead I ran with Sam’s dog Chyenne. Actually worked out pretty well. Cheyenne is a 90 pound labrador that could use some exercise. She is not your typical pet-me pet-me Lab — she is more guard dog than you would expect with her breed. I felt pretty secure even though it was 5 am and very dark outside. We need to work with each other to build up a rhythm that works for us… she has a tendency to ‘heel’ a bit too close to my leg for my ‘running’ stride. I am not fast — and Cheyenne basically held a fast walk the whole time. She was plenty tired when we returned after only 30 minutes… That was enough for our first effort. I hope to keep working with her 2-3x a week. Hopefully, T won’t mind Chyenne’s presence next Monday. This could be really good for Chyenne and I both — I would feel safer in the dark and eventually have to run faster — Chyenne could trim down some of those extra pounds she’s carrying on her big self.

Running partner

Well, I finally have a running partner… T & I used to do fast walks 2x week until our schedules quit meshing. We are going to try  Monday mornings and see how it goes. Since T is getting married in January I expect our running together will be short lived — that’s ok, hopefully after Jan 1st I will have more confidence to try catching up with local running club.

My Next race …

Well, looks like I am going to try another 5k in November — on the 17th is the Draggin’ Tail in Sunny Hills — Supposed to be pretty challenging. Actually, the main race is 18 miles — I am nowhere near ready for that many miles — I still find 5k tough enough.  The weather in November can be pretty decent for running so I guess I will give it a shot.

Last night I had dinner with friends @ Beef O’Brady’s (wow, what a loud place during Monday night football!) One of the group is a runner — she & I could talk about it, but the others  found it boring — oh well. Running is hard work and I like being able to share that with someone. I really need a running partner.

Happy Birthday to me!

Survived the 5k Run for the Cure held at PC marina today. Actually placed third in my age group. I learned a couple very important lessons today. One, after a race go for the gatorade and refuel. Two,  listen to my body — I ended up with some terrible stomach cramps for the second half of the route. My time was pretty good first half, but second half sucked… my final time was 46:05 !  Third, tylenol after the race is important. I have decided to work harder and try couple more 5k races and next year do run for the cure 10k! I have definitely been bitten by the bug… I will take a couple days off before my next run. My training needs to kick it up and get it together.   Happy birthday to me.

Bummer – race is cancelled

Due to Tropical (or subtropical) Depression #10 the Sundancer Adventure race has been postponed to October 6th — I am booked to run 5k Race for the Cure — A Breast Cancer Charity race I have participate in the last 2 years, this year is my 3rd effort and I hope to run most of the way. The people of Sundancer moved my registration to next year. Wow, already booked a race for 2008!  I will now focus primarily on my running for the race in 2 weeks and after that I plan to work in some cycling miles for the ‘tour de ranch’ in March — a metric century — my first!

only 6 days left

Until the sundancer adventure race.  I am already nervous… I have got to get it together. I am excited too. I know I can do this. The race meeting is the night before, we pick up our race packets and listen to the rules, etc. during the short meeting (< one hour)

Race is getting closer

16 days to go! I am having hard time getting in my training… I will try to get my run in tonight. I really need to get some miles in before the 22nd. I am excited about the race, this heat has been really hard to get through.

I am committed…

I have registered for two races, the first is the Sundancer Adventure Race (Biathlon) on Sept 22nd in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. The second race in the Run for the Cure (5K) October 6th — my birthday! The 5k starts/ends @ the Panama City Marina. Last year I did it as a walker. My goal is to run at least 2 of the 3 miles!  The training is in full swing now — this morning I started my run much later than usual now I remember why I like to run so early… too darn hot later!

Busy is no excuse

Yes, I did not finish the emerging technology project… I have played with most of the tools mentioned in the 23 things list. For whatever reason, I just got sidetracked from the blogging, etc. Kudos to everyone that finished and congrats on experiencing some of the hottest new tools available.
